ALEXANDER the GREAT Type Silver Tetrarachm Coin. Half-brother of Alexander the Great. In the name of Philip III of Macedonhalf-brother of Alexander the Greattypes of Alexander the Great. Rare early Egyptian type under Alexander's general, Ptolemy IPtolemaic.

Still retaining the iconic Herakles/Zeus type, it also displays Philip's name--Ptolemy not yet utilizing his own name and types. VERY RARE None listed on Pella database. Dated RY (regnal year) 14 of Abdalonymos (320/319 BC).

Alexander the Great Type Silver Tetradrachm, 29mm, 16.98g. Nice large size coin compare to US Quarter at 5.7gm & 24mm. Obverse: Herakles head right, in lion scalp headdress tied at neck. In Greek Zeus seated left on low throne on a ground line, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings.

In left field, SI (Sidon) below throne. Extremely Fine, Bold strike of fine style, some minor porosity obv. Newell, Dated 43; DCA 874; Price P172 corr. Tetradrachm not AU stater "Price"= M. The Coinage in the Name and Types of Alexander the Great... 1991; None listed on Wildwinds.
